COLD AIR COWL PLENUMS
GM VINTAGE MUSCLE CARS
Cold Air Cowl Plenums are now available for the vintage muscle car enthusiast. This very rare GM option was available over the counter in your typical GM Auto Dealerships during the late 60's as an option to increase performance for your automobile. At that time they were quite expensive by comparison to the value of a new automobile and due to this did not sell in volume. Since then the value of an original cowl plenum has increased to numbers exceeding $5,000.00, if you could find one for sale. The cowl plenum most recognized was installed on the 1967, 1968 Camaro Z/28 but was also available for any GM car of the day. Chevelles, El Caminos, Impalas and Pontiacs from 1964 to 1969 became canidates that could add this option. Big blocks and small blocks alike would benefit from the Cold Air Cowl Plenum assembly, the only obstacle being a factory installed air conditioning unit.
These reproduction cowl plenums are fabricated from aluminum and steel for the plenum air cleaner and snorkel and the duct to the firewall is constructed from molded fiberglass to the highest hand layed standard and finished in polished isothalic black gelcoat. These finished product assemblies used the original plenum assemblies from GM to acquire the proper shape and look and for geometry the vertical transitions. Each application has been test fit on an actual vintage muscle car for the assembly requested. The Cold Air Cowl Plenum from Pure Plenum Performance will turn heads once installed on your muscle car and will not disappoint in fit and finish.
Once a request is made for a Cold Air Cowl Plenum, Pure Plenum Performance will fabricate each assembly to your requirements. Black being the typical color of choice, this assembly can be painted in high gloss black or 60% factory GM. Other potential options include a chrome lid. For an additional cost this assembly can be polished to a high quality chrome look.
As more interest has grown for these assemblies the options have also increased to not just period specific installations, but also Resto-Mod designs that emulate the original look. The typical Cold Air Cowl Plenum from Pure Plenum Performance is $995.00 plus shipping. I will also be offering a reproduction of the Cross Ram Cold Air Cowl Plenum available in January, 2011 for $ 1,350.00 plus shipping.
